When people think of documentaries, they usually visualize academics with a high vocabulary and facts and figures. However, the word “experimental” very rarely comes to mind.

For the first episode of their six part doco-series in Berlin, we meet non-binary musician Mikey Woodbridge aka MIKEY. We’ll gain an insight on how music and spirituality has played a pivotal role in their discovery of self in a city infamous for its hypnotic nightlife.
For MIKEY, music has become a meditative platform for them to experiment, explore and self express their non-binary identity. 2018 marks the year of their EP release, Paths, which oscillates between the vulnerability and inner strength of finding love and intimacy as a non-gender-conforming person.

While many film enthusiasts argue that streaming online has taken over the incomparable experience of watching media in theatres, producer Lisa N’Paisan disagrees, stating:
“Until we have safer spaces to showcase films exploring all kinds of topics such as sexuality and gender, there’s nothing wrong with watching a film on your laptop or iPhone.”
With the intention of starting dialogue and asking tough questions, the “Beyond Club Culture” series seeks to bring unlikely people together.
