Pride should be celebrated all year round, not only by the community, but by the allies who claim to support us during our one designated month of the year. With a busy Pride week in LA we joined the celebrations at Flaming Flamingo for the LA Pride Trans Brunch, hopped to Dyke Day in Elysian Park on Saturday and then closed the week on Sunday with the Pride parade along Santa Monica Boulevard. The theme for Pride in LA was inclusivity, diversity and remembering those who paved the way years before us.

Make Pride a riot again – a statement that has been shared all over social media, referring to the consumeristic agenda that most companies have when jumping on the Pride bandwagon for that one month a year. Now that there is profit to be made off the LGBTQIA+ community, the corporations are waving their rainbow flags high, but they are quick to ignore the roots of Pride, the Stonewall riots, the trans women of colour who fought for equality, and still are fighting in the United States and worldwide. Despite this, we focused on the mass positivity that circulated during the celebrations, and the need to bring further awareness to the at-risk minorities within the community – trans women & gender-non conforming individuals of colour.
