Amsterdam based fashion line MaryMe-JimmyPaul is a fresh and inventive brand always pushing the boundaries when it comes to the use of creative textiles and sculptural design. Made up of the fabulous duo Marie Burlot and Jimmy Rinsum the pair has been able to create a unique design aesthetic all their own. We recently caught up with Jimmy and talked about his inspirations and influences.
Describe the MaryMe-JimmyPaul style in 1 sentence?
A colorful explosion of shape and texture for the cosmopolitan person that is not afraid to take style risks.
Where did you grow up and how did that influence your creative development?
Jimmy grew up in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, a place where people are allowed to express themselves and are very open towards being ‘different’.
Marie grew up in Brittany, France. France, the cradle of fashion, style and aesthetic, do we need to say more? haha
What are some of the benefits/challenges of working in a design duo for the brand?
We both come with different ideas and strengths into our work. But always with the same focus, so that means that we inspire each other and create things that we haven’t thought of before, or even seen. Like for example our jackets and bags made with hair and sealed in plastic, or our big oversized shapes.
Who or what were some of your main artistic inspirations growing up?
Mostly kids television, like everything from Cartoon Network; Are You Afraid Of The Dark, Goosebumps, Mysterious Cities Of Gold and Jem And The Holograms.
What do you do to recharge after finishing a collection?
Drink!
What advice would you give to other queer artists who are getting started in fashion design?
STAMINA!
