TIGHT ROPE: Bondage and the Freedom of Self-Expression

For Play Out Apparel, diversity and inclusion don’t stop at a size, race, age, ability, gender or sexual identity…they love their kink community with abundance! Play Out was privileged enough to be able to turn to two very skilled, talented friends in the rope bondage community for their Valentine’s Day 2020 campaign. Shot by Liz Leifer, Play Out was invited into a private studio to enjoy and document the incredible art form of bondage rope tying, which they are so proud to share in the name of love, sexuality and the freedom of self-expression.

ABOUT THE MODELS

Boshai is a Brooklyn based bondage rope tying practitioner who has been in and out of rope since 2013. Her approach to tying rope is deeply informed by her experiences as the person being tied, as well as her studies of various martial, fiber, and visual arts. She values rope as a method for personal creative expression and spiritual growth. She has found that the practice of tying a partner is an ideal way to cultivate patience, empathy, resilience, non-verbal communication skills, and intimacy.

McKenzie aka Biscuit Witch is a bondage rope bottom based in Manhattan.  With her rope journey having begun in May 2019, McKenzie has had the incredible opportunity of learning and growing within the vibrant NYC rope community.  Her capacities in the rope are influenced by her preexisting yoga, movement arts, and meditation practices, and she finds that her experiences in rope have to lead to the deepest connection to her body and mind that she has ever felt.  The visceral aspects of rope are undeniable for her, and she invites her tops to sink deeply into their vulnerability alongside her as she explores this emotional space.  The rope does not “happen” to her; it’s an exchange of energy, connection, and profound trust between her and her partner.
